Sinus Infection Herbs
There are many well trusted sinus infection herbs that can be used to treat underlying
factors of imbalance as well as relieve discomfort.
Herbs for Sinus Infection
Though many people think to make a doctor’s appointment when they get a sinus infection, not so
many people look to sinus infection herbs for relief.
There are so many beneficial herbs that can provide as much relief as prescription drugs,
without the side effects of prescription drugs as well.
Because most sinus infections are caused by bacteria, the prescribing of antibiotics for sinus
infection is common practice for many doctors.
The type of antibiotic used for the treatment of sinus infection can depend largely on the
specific type of bacterial infection the patient is suffering from.
When it comes to sinus infection herbs, many are utilized for their antibacterial properties. In
the world of medicinal herbs, there are some powerhouse herbs that hold anti-viral properties and well as
anti-bacterial powers.
Synthetic anti-viral drugs, on the other hand, are quite new by contrast. Because of this, we
don’t know as much about the deeper effects of synthetic anti-viral drugs.
Using herbs for sinus infection and the like, on the other hand, tend to be more reliable
because natural medicines address deeper imbalances. This is a generality, and certainly only treating superficial
symptoms with herbal supplements is just as dangerous as any pharmaceutical quick fix.
There is more data amongst the long history of using herbs, such that herbologists have
discovered connections between imbalance and deficiencies, and which herbs will supply the missing nutrients.
Antibiotic and antibacterial Herbs for Sinus Infection
Echinacea and goldenseal are both wonderfully versatile and
powerful herbs for fighting infection and the accompanying sinus infection symptoms. Echinacea can be taken for up
to 2-3 weeks at a time. It is generally considered to be most effective when long term use is interrupted by
periods of at least as long. You can find Echinacea at most drug stores and many grocery stores. Follow the
instructions.
Typically you can double the suggested amounts if you are trying to fight a sudden, imminent or
acute and chronic sinus infection. Echinacea is considered
to be quite safe. Overdose and allergy are not likely with echinacea. Usually,
a regimen of 300mg of liquid echinacea together with Oregon Grape, Milk Vetch, Privet and Chinese Magnolia
Goldenseal has powerful antibacterial properties. It can be taken internally or
used to cleanse external wounds. It is quite astringent, in general, and as such it should not be taken as
liberally as Echinacea.
For this reason you should avoid buying those ‘Echinacea / Goldenseal’ herbal combinations.
While they sound convenient, there’s just too much Goldenseal to Echinacea for strenuous
treatment of a bad cold or sinus infection.
Adding a dose of Echinacea between the recommended doses of ‘Echinacea/ Goldenseal’ is an easy
way to keep an eye on dosages when it comes to antibiotic sinus infection herbs.
Another of the antibacterial sinus infection herbs is eucalyptus. Several
recent studies indicate that eucalyptus has powerful antibacterial properties, and also works as an
effective expectorant and antiseptic. Though it is not recommended that children ingest
eucalyptus, adults can safely use fresh eucalyptus leaves in teas or mouth rinses to relieve sinus symptoms.
A More Natural Decongestant
Over the counter decongestants containing pseudoephedrine or ephedra are
typically the most effective medicines for reducing inflammation of the sinuses. For the most part the
less-expensive and more-expensive decongestants have the same concoction, but the premium decongestants will
release the active ingredient over a longer period of time.
Some people, preferring to avoid synthetic decongestant medicines, take ephedra. Ephedra is the
natural version of synthetic pseudo-ephedrine. The benefits and usage are much the same. The World Health
Organization promotes the use of ephedra as part of a plan for sinus infection treatment, hay
fever and the common cold.
Along with sinus infection herbs, many people find relief from acupuncture for sinusitis. Though
Western medical literature lacks the wealth of knowledge about the administration and effectiveness of acupuncture,
many older medical traditions use acupuncture in conjunction with other forms of home remedy for sinus infection, with impressive
results.
